Small Business Grants for Growth & Expansion

Small business grants from $50,000 to $250,000 for equipment, expansion, digitalization and export readiness. Check eligibility and apply with support.

Small Business Grants, explained honestly.

Small business grants fund a defined project — equipment, capacity expansion, digitalization, export readiness or workforce training. They are not general operating subsidies, and the strongest applications are built around a scoped, measurable project.

The Meridian Enterprise Growth Facility in our catalogue offers $50,000 to $250,000 as a blend of performance-based grant funding and concessional working-capital support. Co-financing of at least 30% of total project cost is expected.

This page explains the eligibility bar, what reviewers look for and how to structure a proposal that survives due diligence. If you are pre-revenue or still building a prototype, start with the startup grants page instead.

Application Path

How to apply, step by step.

The same five-stage path applies whether you handle the application yourself or engage FedOP for support.

  1. 01

    Build the project case

Define the project, the budget by line item and the measurable outcome — jobs, output, exports or productivity. Reviewers fund projects, not intentions.

  2. 02

    Prepare financial evidence

Two years of audited or management accounts, tax standing and proof of co-financing capacity form the core of the file.

  3. 03

    Submit a concept note

Most facilities screen a short concept note before inviting a full proposal. We align the note to the funder's template and scoring language.

  4. 04

    Survive due diligence

Expect a due diligence call and, where applicable, a site visit. Quotations, permits and partner letters should be ready before this stage.

  5. 05

    Contract and disburse

Awards are disbursed against verified milestones. Build a milestone plan you can actually report against.

Not sure whether your file is ready? A short intake is enough for us to confirm fit and map a realistic application path.

FAQ

Small Business Grants, Answered.

Direct answers to the questions applicants ask most often about this category.

Full grant FAQ
Can a startup apply for a small business grant?
Most SME facilities require two complete financial years. Earlier-stage companies should use the startup grants page, where the eligibility bar is built around a prototype and founding team.
Do I need collateral?
The grant portion does not require collateral. Where a blended facility includes concessional debt, the lender's terms may require security or personal guarantees.
How much co-financing is required?
The Meridian facility expects at least 30% of total project cost from own resources or commercial sources. Other programmes vary; we confirm the requirement before you apply.
Can a grant fund working capital?
Pure grants usually fund specific project costs. Blended facilities can include concessional working capital, but the grant portion remains restricted to eligible project expenditure.
Can a sole trader apply?
If the business is legally registered and can provide the required financial history, it can be assessed. Informal or unregistered operations are not eligible for these facilities.
FedOP supports applicants in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and participating global programmes.
